These are difficult times for youth workers. Surrey County Council is radically re- shaping its services for young people to cope with a reduction in spending from £16.1 mill in 209/10 to £11.1 in 2012/13 (Source: Report to Cabinet Dec 2010 – PUBLIC VALUE REVIEW OF SERVICES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE) .
The practical consequence is that over the period 2011 into 2012 the size of the local government workforce of sector youth workers is likely to reduce.
BUT the response is up to you!
You’ll need to be flexible and determined:
- “Flexible “ may mean doing voluntary work initially or taking a part time job to get your career kick started (see training section)
- “Determined” may mean receiving rejection letters, but remember it’s not about you personally and that you have to be in it to win it. Learn from the experience, and Keep on Keeping on until you succeed.
